Heart cushions for breast cancer patients

The initiative originated in the USA and was introduced to Europe by a Danish nurse. The cushion with its deep indentation is placed under the armpit to help relieve pressure on the wound after an operation. The symbolic shape conveys the best wishes for a speedy recovery from the people who donate the material and filling and then sew the cushions before donating them to the appropriate wards of hospitals in their area. If you would like to join one of our groups, please get in touch with Jill Wolff or Katharina Meier-Cortés for Bonn or with Ranti Hendricks for Cologne. Or just drop us a  line:

Christmas bazaar in Bonn

Our Christmas bazaar in Bonn is a regular event in the chaplaincy calendar. It attracts a large crowd of visitors who come to stock up on British food items, sample tasty home-made treats, browse English books, try their luck at the tombola, or simply enjoy a cup of tea and a mince pie. As well as raising funds for the chaplaincy, it's a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Bible Study group in Cologne

The Friday evening group in Cologne meets in All Saints on Fridays at 6:30 pm, after Evening Prayer. Having grown from a tiny group of just two or three, we now number anything up to 12 people (usually we can count on at least half a dozen being present). Some come just for Evening Prayer in the first half hour, others for the hour of readings and discussion of the upcoming Sunday Gospel that follows. People are welcome at either but most people stay for both. Led by Fr. Richard (or on occasions when he has to be away, by one of the group), we say the familiar prayers, alternate in reading aloud the verses of the Psalm for the day and listen to the readings from the Old and the New Testament, usually read by members of the group. At the end of the half-hour Evening Prayer we have – hopefully – wound down from a hectic week and adjourn to the comfortable seating at the back of the church to consider the Sunday Gospel with often lively discussions on what it means for us in our day-to-day lives.

Come and join us - you are most welcome!

Chaplaincy Walkers

Our walking group meets every two months. With the Eifel, Bergisches Land and Siebengebirge at our doorsteps, it’s a great chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones while stretching your legs. Distances vary from 12 to 18 km with a meal at the end. All are welcome. Walking boots are recommended. Interested? Get in touch with Richard.
